SDG co-founder Todd Tenbroek is no stranger to these essential components of motorsports success, having served the off-road industry for more than 30 years. Decades of perfecting his craft have evolved into SDG providing racers and enthusiasts the pinnacle of shock tuning and suspension expertise.
Todd’s path began at his first job at Action Turbo. Owner Tom Geviss was a master off-road racing co-driver, applying his winning skills to Jimmy Johnson, Larry Ragland, and others. Geviss lit a fuse in Tenbroek that remains the backbone of his enthusiasm for the sport.
In 2001, he landed a position as production manager at Fox Racing Shox. That decision eventually led to Todd earning the role of special projects and race support manager directly under shock technology mastermind John Marking.
Genius is intelligence on a completely illogical level, only granted to characters who have the mind and talent to bend the fabric of reality.
The late John Marking was one of those characters, an engineer and racer who radically transformed the design, construction, and capabilities of high-performance shock absorbers. Inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2021, Marking’s industry-altering thinking resulted in the granting of more than 40 international patents.
Todd honed his craft under Marking, only to sharpen his unique skillset in the years since. No single aspect of the off-road industry is more crucial to performance than shock absorbers, and that collective knowledge is the secret sauce in our cutting-edge products and services.

From grocery bagger to off-road entrepreneur, SDG co-founder Jason Duncan's journey epitomizes resilience and ambition. Raised in San Diego, his passion for hockey instilled a fierce competitive spirit. Encounters with Danny Duncan of Duncan Racing during his days as a supermarket bagger ignited his fascination with off-road racing.
Jason ventured into racing in 2009, crafting his own Ford Ranger race truck and securing a championship in his debut season. Transitioning to co-driver roles, he honed his skills with the TSCO team, balancing his racing aspirations with a day job as a cable installer.
Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Jason co-founded SDG with Todd Tenbroek, merging his racing expertise with business acumen. Today, as one of the world's most accomplished co-drivers, Jason Duncan embodies the transformative power of passion and perseverance in pursuit of one's dreams.

It’s a time proven adage that successful entrepreneurs reflect an ideal blending of creativity and business. In the case of SDG co-founder Jason Duncan, that combination also includes a third major component -- years of hands-on experience.
Born in San Diego and raised in Oklahoma and San Diego. In his early years Jason’s competitive side was fostered not by dirt, but ice. Playing hockey was an early passion, and his natural athleticism and focus on winning would serve him well later in life.
His exposure to the off-road world came as an Albertson’s supermarket grocery bagger. There he met Danny Duncan of Duncan Racing. Like so many before and since, the ex-hockey player was a regular visitor to the nearby desert and Glamis sand dunes.
Like SDG co-founder Todd Tenbroek, Jason was also greatly influenced by Tom Geviss. By 2009, he built a Ford Ranger race truck to compete in local events in Plaster City – earning him a championship in his first season. The cost of racing was daunting, however, and Jason decided the best way forward was a role as co-driver.
The road to becoming one of the sport’s premiere navigators/mechanics came in 2010, co-driving with Jason McNeil. They enjoyed modest success, but a move to the Santee, California-based TSCO team of Gary and Mark Weyhrich would pave the path toward his goal.
Jason’s day job was working as a Time Warner cable installer, a position he took because it allowed him just enough time to go racing on the weekends. TSCO eventually hired him to work full time with crew chief John Vance, who gave him the opportunity to learn much more about the art and science of top-tier off-road motorsports.
Yet, at his core, Jason wanted to be an entrepreneur, combining his newfound knowledge with his competitive fire in the right seat of a race truck. Co-founding SDG with Todd Tenbroek -- while serving as one of the world’s most accomplished co-drivers with champion racer Luke McMillin and legendary McMillin Racing -- has allowed the former hockey player and grocery bagger to have it all.
HOW WE STARTED
- SDG's inception mirrors the classic tale of garage beginnings. Roommates Todd and Jason embarked on their entrepreneurial journey, fueled by a shared passion for racing. Todd's mountain bike bartered for two shock bays symbolized the humble origins of their venture, firmly rooted in their racing aspirations.
- We started the company in the garage of my house in El Cajon in March of 2017
- Got our first win at the 2017 Baja 500 with Andy McMillin
- We moved to a 1300 sq/ft shop in Santee, San Diego in July of 2018
OUR PROGRESS
- From their modest garage setup, SDG embarked on a journey of growth and evolution. The transition to a 1300 square foot shop marked a significant milestone, signaling their expanding expertise and ambition. It was within these walls that the seeds of innovation were sown, laying the groundwork for the development of SXS UTV and propelling SDG forward.
